Adopting new technologies
The famous hype cycle methodology illustrates the maturity level of a given technology within a given market.
Funny analogy in the micro level:
When taking a view at new technologies (e.g. programming language, patterns, or paradigms), this works as well to describe the emotional states you'll encounter. And for every new technology, there will come a time when it gets boring.
That may be more so in the IT business where a lot of very talented people started IT because of the new wonders of technology and the excitements of intellectual challenges.
I suppose this is a big driver for the continuational evolution of technologies like evolving programming languages (e.g. Java, PERL, PHP), and the Web itself. That's what keeps us all busy diving into new depths and reaching for new levels, but also keeps the productivity of IT talents in waves.
