CeBIT 2009, it's about people and ideas
I visited CeBIT on friday, after a lot of paper was inked about the massive decline in visitors and exhibitors.
I know this fair from the very beginning and had my first experiences there, when CeBIT was a small section during the Hannover industry fair.
This year, however, I noticed a big improvement over last year: the emphasis on ideas and people. This reminded me vaguely of the early days of CeBIT, when the exhibition was a passionate demonstration of solutions, ideas and technical advancements. Solutions and technologies are a given on any computer fair. But passion had vastly been replaced by sales promotions and gadget-based advertising.
With a vivid hall 6, where Webciety, Open Source and communication tools and solutions were presented, the spirit of exchanging ideas, getting together and innovating was omnipresent.
In hall 9, dedicated to the public sector and a lot of universities, it was a similar experience.
I very much liked that and spent most of my time in the two halls.
