Facebook is the one big name in social networking. And it has an impressive amount of users.

I'm an Adobe user since about Photoshop 2.5 on a Mac //fx, portrait monitor and such. Addicted to Illustrator for now ten years. So the Adobe keyboard shortcuts are practically sewn into my genetic code.
But Adobe and friends sometimes made me sigh, when I was working on my linux machine and I missed them.
I still think that nothing else should go between a creative and a rotary printing press.
But for doing online media there's hope. Inkscape is a very mature and capable vector graphics editor, using the standardized svg format. And besides being a very good graphics editor, it brings two very interesting features:
Even after hundreds of hours spent in Illustrator and Photoshop, I got a hang of the keyboard shortcuts of Inkscape basically in minutes. These are designed very logical, structured and the usual modifiers are consistent throughout the application.
And, as svg is an xml format, there is a xml editor to finetune the vector elements of a drawing. That sounds nerdy, but there are the rare occasions where this is a killer feature. And of course svg is a cool file format for further, especially automatich, modifications and transformations.
Now Inkscape is my number one graphics tool, especially for creative works, doodling, and whatever.
Of course, print stuff and the whole wide world of eps graphics still get their finish in Mother Illustrator.
